Forums, organizations and programs where CubeSat developers, students and professionals share knowledge, ask questions and collaborate – the places to go for help, feedback or like-minded builders.

The help on offer is concrete: strangers with ground stations have found, and occasionally recovered, missions whose own teams had lost them. Bring specifics when you ask – telemetry, a spectrum capture, a schematic – and the answer is usually specific too.

Forums and discussion

  • Libre Space Community Link – Discourse forum run around the Libre Space Foundation's projects, with active categories for SatNOGS, Gpredict, LibreCube, satellite observations and the Open Source CubeSat Workshop. The most technically substantive open CubeSat forum
  • r/CubeSats Link – Active Reddit community for CubeSat developers and students
  • Space Exploration Stack Exchange Link – Q&A site with a strong technical community; good for well-specified engineering questions
  • Build a CubeSat Discord Link – Community focused on open-source hardware and software in CubeSat development

Organizations and networks

  • Libre Space Foundation Link – Non-profit developing open-source space technologies, including SatNOGS and UPSat; runs the Open Source CubeSat Workshop
  • SatNOGS Link – Open-source global network of satellite ground stations. Joining as a station operator is one of the best ways into the community, and getting your own satellite into the SatNOGS database is one of the best things you can do for your mission
  • AMSAT Link – The Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, and its national counterparts (AMSAT-UK, AMSAT-DL and others), with decades of amateur satellite engineering experience
  • NASA Small Spacecraft Systems Virtual Institute (S3VI) Link – NASA's hub for small spacecraft technology, including a searchable knowledge base
